Are obese people responsible for the current high price of food?

I was reading a news report last night which blamed obese people for food shortages and high food prices and I was gobsmacked. No mention of the fact that the world is grossly overpopulated, just loads of blame for obesity being the cause of the rise in food prices. Would a world full of slim people really make a difference? Are obese people taking food out of the mouths of others, or are there just too many people?
