Silly Buns asked:

I have a few questions about the specifics for comparison.

1. For telecommunication, what is the price comparison for say 5 km? Also, what is an estimated cost for installing fiber optics in a city with say 1 million people?

2. How many telephone conversations can be transmitted through a single fiber? How does this compare with copper wire?

3. How often would copper wire need an amplifier to strengthen the signal for long distance transmission?

If you have any other specific or technical information to compare fiber with wire, feel free to post. Thanks everyone.
For the first question, any comparison in price really is fine.
This is for a physics project, and I have to teach my class about fiber optics. I wanted to try to get some numerical information that they could compare with.

Fuel economy is a must for most motorists nowadays. Every car owner who values less fuel expenditures constantly try to search for the perfect fuel or the perfect engine that will give them the maximum mileage at minimum fuel consumption.

There are currently three major engine types that are in wide use in the auto industry: gasoline, diesel, and propane. Of the three, the most commonly used is the gasoline engine. It is endeared by many car owners for its quick acceleration via spark ignition and high voltage current, fast start-up, and noiseless and smooth road performance. But in the wake of the incessant oil price increase, the gasoline’s pricey tag drives motorists away. Gasoline engines are the least fuel-efficient of the three. Furthermore, it has been pinpointed to be a major contributor to global warming and air pollution because of its exhaust fumes. However, supporters of the petrol or gasoline engines have found ways that reduce fuel consumption as well as toxic emissions.

The diesel is the brawny one of the bunch. It is built to sustain heavy loads. It is a mean muscle of a machine. Its supporters point out the diesel engine’s mighty torque power, fuel-efficient performance, and its low maintenance characteristic. Diesel is much more economic compared to petrol because it can self-combust. Petrol, on the other hand, needs to be ignited before it can generate power. But there is a downside to the diesel-powered motor. They have slow ignition and acceleration (especially during cold seasons), are noisy on the road, and they emit the most carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. For this reason, diesel is set aside for heavy equipment rather than everyday urban vehicles.

Then there’s the “youngest” (in terms of market existence) engine type: the propane engine. Propane-run vehicles are considered to be the “purest” among the other engine types. This is because the propane engines give off lesser toxic emissions to the air. In fact, the only toxic substances that the propane engine gives off are ones with the lowest lifespan. Compared to a diesel engine, the propane engine increases burning efficiency by 15% to 20%. Propane engines also generate 10% to 20% of torque at the reduction of fuel costs. And the biggest highlight in a propane engine is its fuel cost. Propane fuel is way cheaper than that of petrol or diesel fuel.

These three engine types have something to offer to all motorists. Where one lacks in power, another is abounding with it. Where one fails in environmental contribution, another excels. The comparison among the petrol, diesel, and propane engines yield varying results, which cater to varying driving styles. All the car-seeker has to do is to lay out his priorities and match it up with the vehicle that best fulfills his criteria.

The great energy price comparison race has started. As I write this it is January and along with millions of people all over the world I’m feeling the squeeze after paying my credit card bills.

For this reason, coupled with new year resolutions people turn their attention to saving some money where they can. Let’s face it, we all have to pay for our energy so it makes sense to pay for the least possible whilst maintaining quality of service.

To help you and I do this there are websites out there like money supermarket that will carry out an energy price comparison for you. You simply enter a few details and it goes and checks it’s database of current gas and electricity prices.

No I’m not saying there is anything wrong with this – they offer a useful service, but I would suggest this is the start of the journey – a step in the right direction but not the whole picture.

To make myself clear, my best price is actually with a company that didn’t even show on the comparison site I used. Another site did use them, but didn’t actually show the deal I am on with my current supplier, which is the Utility Warehouse.

I don’t understand why, but the energy comparison sites don’t seem to update quickly enough, or can’t work with multi service suppliers. I’m talking about companies that offer several utilities on one bill to save cost for example.

So what do I suggest? Well I suggest asking around your friends and family to see who they are on, probably one of the big 6 to be honest. Then use a gas and electricity price comparison site to see if that matches, and then compare some of the other multi service companies.

To get the absolute best price you may need to take another utility like the phone with them, but as calls are usually cheaper to make them more attractive anyway I guess that shouldn’t be an issue.

Often these suppliers are not as well known, so just make sure they have been around for a while. At the end of the day there is no actual difference to your gas or electricity supply. Think about it – when you last changed or moved in to a new house, nobody dug up the cables and pipes did they! Your gas and electricity will be exactly the same.

The same is true of there is a problem with your supply, The same contractors are used by most if not all of the suppliers out there. This means there is no difference in this crucial level of service.

I remember a survey from a couple of years ago that said consumer apathy was the main reason why people over paid for their utility bills. As prices rise I urge you not to be the one with apathy. Energy price comparison sites have made it very easy to search around now so you’ll have no excuse.

When you buy your first house, enclosed blinds might not be at the top of your list of most important things to purchase. However, after a few days of no privacy and bright sunlight, you’ll start to understand how great enclosed blinds can be.

What are Enclosed Blinds?

Enclosed blinds are more upscale and less frustrating than mini-blinds. Unlike mini-blinds, they sit between two pieces of glass so they’re not exposed. Mini-blinds are the most common blinds out there. They’re very popular in apartment buildings and rental houses because they’re cheap. Mini-blinds are plastic. They’re opened with a long chord that frequently gets tangled up. The shutters are opened by turning a rod.

Enclosed blinds are much more user friendly, they last longer, they don’t need to be dusted and they’re more decorative than mini-blinds. These blinds fit the windows more snuggly because they sit between two layers of glass. They can be opened, closed and tinted by using a tab on the frame. This eliminates all tangled strings.

Because the blinds are placed between glass, they can’t get caught in the door or window and they don’t get tangled. This is an especially nice feature in high traffic areas of the home. Enclosed blinds attach to an aluminum frame and are most commonly used on doors.

Advantages of Enclosed Blinds

Enclosed blinds share the same benefits as vinyl mini-blinds. They keep out sunlight, which in turn keeps your house cooler. They also give you privacy. Unlike mini-blinds, enclosed blinds don’t need to be dusted because they’re never exposed to dust. Instead, they sit safely between two pieces of glass.

Finding Enclosed Blinds

You can find enclosed blinds in a variety of different places. Home improvement stores such as Home Depot and Lowes carry enclosed blinds. These places will install your enclosed blinds for a fee. Many enclosed blind buyers install their own blinds because it’s a relatively simple process.

Enclosed blinds come in all different colors and can be made to custom fit unusual doors. Before you go shopping for your blinds, measure your door window. You need to measure the height and the width of the door measuring from the center of the ***** holes. Your salesperson should be able to tell you if you need custom blinds.

Enclosed blinds are more expensive than mini-blinds. For a full-length door, enclosed blinds cost more than $200. You can find them for about $70 for a door that has a half-piece of glass. This may be expensive, but keep in mind that you’ll only need enclosed blinds for doors. You don’t have to get them for every outside door in the house, just the high traffic areas. If your family never uses the patio door, you don’t need enclosed blinds for the patio. You really only need enclosed blinds for the doors that are most commonly used.

Hi,
My friend and I are planning to travel to Mexico (from either Ireland or the UK) via Upstate NY in November. We want to book a package to Mexico from NY but we don’t know how to go about looking.

Does anyone know of any good U.S. based price comparison sites?
I’ve tried Expedia and it’s really annoying me.

Has anyone any advice on travelling from NY (Rochester) to Mexico. Is it better to have a package or to book flights and accommodation separately?

We don’t mind where we go in Mexico so long as its by the sea. The cheaper the better also.

Thanks

Comparing Medicare Supplement insurance plans is an essential part of any secure financial future for those on Medicare. It is easy to sign up for the first plan that comes along – there are definitely plenty of opportunities for that. However, it takes a little more work to compare supplement plans so that you can make a choice that gives you maximum coverage for a minimum price.

If you have explored the topic much, you probably realize that all Medicare Supplement plans, regardless of company, are Federally-standardized. That is, each plan is the same from company to company. A Plan F with one company is the exact same as a Plan F from another company.

With that in mind, there are a few important guidelines to keep at the forefront of your Medicare supplement comparison:

First and foremost, you should carefully examine what kind of Medicare insurance you currently have (if you have Medicare insurance already). Far too often, seniors think that their employer insurance or Medicare Advantage plan is an actual Medicare Supplement. Supplements, however, are named for the letters A-J, so if your plan is not named after one of these letters, it is likely not an actual Medicare Supplement plan. Once you know which plan you have currently, you can compare apples to apples by looking at like plans, with the realization that the same letter plan will be equal coverage. Secondly, get quotes from as many plans as possible. Many people find it easiest to use a qualified broker to do this but you can do it on your own as well. However you do it, make sure you are vigilant in getting quotes from as many (or all) companies as possible so you can make sure you will receive the lowest rates. Lastly, make a choice based on all available quotes and company reputation only. Do not allow other factors to weigh into your decision process. As previously discussed, supplements are standardized by the Federal Government. Coverage and claims payment is the same from company to company. So, once you have all of the information, make a choice from those plans based on price and company reputation.

Right so I work at a kid’s play area our nearby rivals just put up this link on their website to a website called compareplayprices.com or something like that.

http://www.cheekychimps.co.uk/

If you follow that link and click on the advert that mentions compare play prices you’ll be directed to this supposedly independent price comparison site. It’s obviously a scheme to advertise their place positively and ridicule other nearby play areas. Oh and when it asks for a postcode just use ‘DN15 7EN’.

Notice how the site is conveniently only focused on play areas in the North Lincolnshire area. Also notice that Cheeky Chimps itself is listed twice, both rated highly. Plus when you read the reviews, they’re awfully negative to all play areas except cheeky chimps which is completely positive.

I know for a fact this is a stunt but I want other people to voice their opinions as I can’t think of any way to reveal them to be frauds.

So, I’m basically asking, is this site fake? Thanks.
Yeh I see what you guys are saying but when the website was first put up, you could input anything in the postcode box and no matter what it was it came up with North Lincolnshire. When this was noticed they all of a sudden specialised in only that area.
