When you assign a real estate sales contract at a higher price do you have to pay tax on the proceeds?
Filed Under Skyrockets | 3 Comments
lets say you enter an assignable contract on a home at 100 k, assign it to someone at 200 k, and the difference is cut back to you at closing, do you have to pay tax on that $100,000 profit? if so, what kind of tax is it called and how much as a dollar amount and what is the typical percentage? use the example above to explain if possible.
thanks a lot

I have this Hard Drive (320GB)
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=299&language=en
I am looking into this one as a new MAIN HD (1TB) .. using the first as a slave
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284
———————————————
My board has 4 SATA ports
1 - Main HD
2 - Optical Drive
3 - empty <-- looking into the new HD here
4 - empty
But I was thinking of making the 1TB HD the main and the 320GB the Backup .. is this a good idea?
And is the 1TB HDD a much better device than my original HD? Speed wise .. and such?
I thought the same thing til I looked it up .. and some process info faster than others and etc.

How can I compare my current tax exempt salary and benefits to job offers back in the States?
Filed Under Price Earnings Ratios | 2 Comments
I am trying to find out a way to compare my current NET income to what I could potentially NET back home. All of the salary comparison websites do not accurately calculate my tax exemption status and cost of living (lower) here in Germany.
My guess is that I’ll need to almost double my salary as I’m not paying most taxes here in Germany. Here’s some more info about my situation.
1. Income tax exemption - I don’t pay US or German income taxes. I’m exempt from both. I’m not paying US state income taxes either. This probably saves me at least 30% every year.
2. Sales taxes - I only pay sales taxes when I eat at a restaurant or shop for groceries on the economy (a german grocery store). I mostly shop at the commissary on base…and they sell everything at cost…you can’t get groceries cheaper anywhere else. All other goods (utilities, clothing, cars, electronics, etc) are tax exempt. I prepay for gasoline (current US national average price without sales tax).
Any suggestions?
I’m not a GS employee (civil servant) or in the military. I work for a private contractor. I file the 2555 with my 1040 every year. My taxable income is just below the allowed amount.
I am paying Social Security and Medicare.
I also have 3 dependents. My wife also works for a private contractor and is tax exempt.
I file EXEMPT on my W4. That way taxes are not taken from my paycheck. That’s what we call exempt status here. Call it what you want. We’re given a 3 month extension to file for being overseas.

How much to pave my driveway?
Filed Under Maintenance & Repairs | 1 Comment
I have seen many similar questions, but no real answers. I have a 23×35′ asphalt driveway, and I would like to know the price difference between resurfacing, bricking it myself ($2K in brick), concrete, and stamped concrete. I had a quote about a year ago, and I can’t remember the price, but he said it would have to be 1-1/2″ thick. It is such a pain to have someone come out and get a quote because I work all day during the week. Of course if I do anything other than asphalt, then I have an additional cost to rip out and remove the old asphalt.
Oh, please only respond if you have an answer with a price, not a “depends” answer — thanks!

I currently have a sturdy 2004 Honda Element. I want to get a new Dodge Charger. Is this a good idea?
Filed Under Other - Cars & Transportation | 6 Comments
Most of my friends do not think its a good idea. The price difference is negligible. Most say the Honda will give me less trouble in the long run. Others say Dodge is a poor quality car. This is from people who fix cars and work in dealerships.
